Nearest Town: Kintore, Aberdeenshire
OS Grid Reference: NJ 87 50 43
Directions: Leave Aberdeen on the A944 towards Westhill. At the end of the dual carriageway just before Westhill, bear left onto the B9119. Go straight across the next roundabout, and then just after the hamlet of Garlogie, turn left onto the B9125. After about half a mile, take the next left onto an unclassified minor road. Cullerlie is on the left after approximately 2 miles. Signposted from some directions, free entry.
Site Notes: Cullerlie is a strange place. In state care, overly restored, accessed via an artificially planted avenue and lacking the usual majestic views of the Aberdeenshire circles this place can feel very empty. A simple stone circle, with burial cairns within, this circle has the air of having been constructed last week.
However, with a little bit of effort, more can be gained from this circle than first thought. It is very peaceful, with only the wind sighing through the trees; sit against one of the stones, look out across the countryside (away from the farmyard-why have farmers got to vandalise their own environment with rusting rubbish?) and drift away. Cullerlie is what you make it.
