OS Grid Reference: NJ 74 72 88

Directions: In the village of Daviot, just off the B9001 north of Inverurie. Signposted, with large car park and information boards. Free entry.

Site Notes: A very impressive and restored site that forms part of ‘The Stone Circle’ a small trail of sites linked together by Aberdeenshire council. A large recumbent stone circle, with the remains of a cairn within, and with the remains of a later ring-cairn beside the circle. Looking NNE at a distant field boundary it is possible to make out the enormous recumbent and flankers, which are all that remain of the New Craig circle. Although no evidence remains, it is also reputed that Daviot church was built on top of a third stone circle. This area is still rich farmland today, and the evidence points to it having been that way now for thousands of years. A senses of continuity pervades at Loanhead.
