Springhill Standing Stones
Nearest Town: Kintore, Aberdeenshire
OS Grid Reference: NJ 80 10 63
Directions: Off the A944 on a minor road just south of the Kirkton of Skene. Visible from the road, some 150m into a field. Do not enter when crops are growing.
Site Notes: A very mysterious site. Only the single stone, in the field proper, is scheduled and the site is listed as the remains of a stone circle. Further research shows that the triangular stone is though to be of the original circle, but is no longer in the original location. The third stone against the wall has apparently appeared only in the last 10 years but is suspected of being of megalithic origin. The piles of field clearance stones also reveal some interesting stones – but to my eyes, they always do! I can offer little more, only to say that if you are passing, call in, have a look around and see if you can develop your own theories.
