Auchterarder Standing Stones
Nearest Town: Auchterarder, Perthshire
OS Grid Reference: NN 92 91 24
Directions: Auchterarder lies off the main A9 trunk road. Turn into Auchterarder and look for where the high street forks with the A824. Take this fork, and then immediately take the next right which should be Tullabardine Road. Follow this a little way until the 3 way junction with Easthill Road. There is a small grass island with one of the stones on it, and the other 2 are in the hedge on the right. Parking is possible with care.
Site Notes: A nice little site, shown on OS maps, and some road atlases. Although split by roads and hedges it is still possible to get a feel for what this site once was. Survey has shown the likely presence of a fourth stone under the grass on the island, which may identify this as a ’4 poster’ type circle common to this part of Scotland. Additionally, if you are able to look closely at the hedge stone behind the road sign, there is an ancient carving of a human hand on one side.
